So this is how it goes Years of tears and sweat and blood and broken bones Another Jericho My castle crumbles tumbled rubble splintered stone I'm buried in a sea of wasted paper The drawing board is worn my pen is dust I'm sweeping up the heaps of yet another failure And though I try with tired tools to reconstruct My vision turns to rust Why did the promise die? I used to raise the roof and scrape the sky A master of design Once flying high now shot down in his prime But I still feel the magic in my fingers That spider's touch could weave a web of gold And though I cry a hunger in me lingers Cos I've got a lot left to dream And my tale is far from told Cos there’s a parthenon inside my mind A temple made of shapes that I want to tessellate But these godforsaken hands of mine are blind and these angles and lines get entangled all the time But someday I swear I’ll take you there I’ll make these fantasies in me realities Cos there’s a parthenon inside my mind And I know I’ll find it in time cos it’s mine for the making So watch me come alive I feel my engines roaring into life The fire reignites And all my wrongs are turning into rights So i'll rise out from the wreckage and the ruin And conjure a cathedral fit for kings The world will see the mountains that i’m moving With strength of mind and sleight of hand i’ll show you wondrous things But someday i swear i’ll take you there I’ll prove to you just what this architect can do

Once I was a parasite searching for new lullabies The same old oohs and aahs and la-di-das would spiral like a broken record every night I’d cry out for a little more heart and soul But the radio was out of poets The maestros had died and left the deaf to thrive And I was losing my mind Digging deep I’d keep on killing sleep To find a diamond in the rough This rock had lost its roll and i had to know If there was something out there worthy of the love When all at once i heard your chorus roar And boy I’ve hit the mother lode Cos you changed the tune to make my heart explode So come to me messiah of the music and save my soul My lady of the melody My sorceress of the noise You saved me with your symphonies Now i’m rejoicing in the glory of your voice Every harmonious sound is a jewel within your crown A masterpiece mesmerising me Oh Mother of Pearl bring me your precious treasure Rock my humble world My Mother of Pearl Play for me heavenly melodies Sing to me a revelation My heartstrings resonate with your every strum My lady come and lay some thunder on my drum For once I was just a parasite But now I’ve got your lullabies So praise be to the queen of the rhythm and the rhyme So come to me messiah of the music and blow my mind

Touch Down 04:27
I’ve been riding on the back of the monster for far too long And why do I still waste my time on juvenile bygone motifs? The canopy I once inhabited rots behind me I give it not a glance And I have severed all the ties that bind me to I It took years to find this new design But i can see its terra firma in my sights Touch down on this barren ground I’ll call it home and from the dirt I’ll grow a brand new sound Yes I’ll start anew and strip it down to the bone if I have to It makes no sense not to shed my skin Here’s where I begin At times I have found myself drowning in the shadows of the future giants who keep trampling me beneath cacophonous feet So now sick and tired of the harvest that I reap from this old earth of mine I’m gonna wipe clean the slate And carve my name on something greater than what I left behind Taste me imbibe my wine I think you’ll find that it’s much more refined Do you like the décor? Take a bigger piece You’re dealing with a rather different beast The adolescent a prototype It’s taken time but the fruit’s now ripe So I’ll cut the ribbon and lift the sheet For here is someone I think you all should meet It makes no sense not to shed my skin

She's a rainbow child Dancing in a spectrum flaring bright and wild And feasting on the colours she finds sweet and mild In her luminescent wilderness Her paradise A fantasy so green that it could paralyse Where silver tongues sing magic words to tranquilise A beautiful hallucination And then you look to the sky with an inquisitive eye to find her laughing at the moon She's a rainbow child She'll melt the blackest heart with an electric smile And illuminate the dark in kaleidoscopic style She'll capture your imagination Her fireworks Bloom and burst and give birth to a universe Her heart of gold will cure the cancer lift the curse And smother mother earth in nectar But then I look to the sky with an inquisitive eye to find her crying at the sun She's a rainbow child Dancing in her spectrum flaring bright and wild But the colours bathe her brain and stain her naive mind And all I ever see is grey now Oh rainbow child Hear me scream in crimson sing in blue I'll pain't myself a different hue So I may live in your white lie with you Now I'm laughing at the moon I'm laughing at the moon too.

about

'A Different Beast' is a five track E.P. that took over two years to create. It was a true labour of love, and its composition and production was a wonderful and rewarding, if not challenging journey. It marks a turning point for me as a singer-songwriter, as it was composed during my time at music college when my influences were quickly expanding and becoming increasingly more diverse, and when my approach to musical composition was developing and maturing.

There is so much I could and would love to say about this project, but i could be here all day, so I think I should let the music speak for itself. All I will say is that the songs here are the most honest and personal I have written to date, and the music you are to hear means more to me than any music I have previously made. I am very proud of this work, and I am so overjoyed to finally be able to share it with you. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Finally, it is hugely important that I properly articulate my immense gratitude to my great friend and creative partner, James Merryweather, for his wonderful work in producing this project, his amazing support for my music, his patience, his time and his undying effort. I have been truly blessed to have had such a talented and dedicated person with me at the helm of this project. Without James, 'A Different Beast' simply could not have existed.

I thank you sincerely for taking the time to listen to this E.P.

Much love,
Martin
